Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) to lead lifeguarding, leadership, and safety programming. The role supports Aquatics Supervisors to ensure safe pool operations and balanced chemical levels during MOD shifts.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• 2+ years aquatics management experience required.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR Pro certifications required.
• Must possess and maintain ARC Lifeguarding Instructor certification with at least 2 years of instructor experience (preferred).
• Willing to obtain CPO certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must complete mandatory in-house chemical handling and pool operations training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation of the aquatics department and supervise staff.
• Explain and exemplify The Salvation Army mission, purpose, and values.
• Coordinate and evaluate ARC Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid courses.
• Serve as Manager on Duty for aquatics operations and staff oversight.
• Lead lifeguard in-service trainings to maintain certifications and skills.
• Provide supervision, coaching, and performance feedback to lifeguards.
• Respond to aquatic emergencies and coordinate EMS activation when needed.
• Develop and enforce aquatics policies and safety standards.
• Provide lifeguard coverage to maintain supervision ratios during shifts.
• Monitor facility conditions and identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
• Maintain positive customer service with members and guests.
