Job summary

Job description

The Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for teaching American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard courses. The incumbent may also teach CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Management, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety and Basic Water Rescue.

1. Arranges, prepares and conducts Lifeguard Training classes in accordance with ARC standards.
2. Observes and directs all class participants and provides feedback and appropriate correction.
3. Communicates consistently to each participant throughout the class about performance, progress, goals and needs.
4. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of ARC subject matter for courses taught.
5. Completes all required records, forms and reports including attendance records, class rosters, and certification forms.
6. Coordinates course offerings with the Aquatics Supervisor.
7. Assess and informs the Aquatics Supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
8. Prepares classroom for training, inventories and maintains all course materials and equipment.
9. Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One year of experience in the area of aquatics, including experience as a lifeguard
• Prior experience in an instructional capacity preferred

Physical Requirements
