Overview

Brief Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Lifeguard’s primary responsibility includes guarding the pool, ensuring the safety of all patrons, enforcing the pool rules, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions around the pool facility, and implementing emergency protocols as needed. This position also involves administering aquatic programs, including teaching swim lessons, coaching the youth swim team, supervising group swim activities, and assisting with other aquatic activities.

Responsibilities

1. Guard the pool, supervise patrons, and ensure safety in accordance with local health regulations.
2. Prevent emergencies through continuous scanning and perform rescues as needed.
3. Assist in developing and implementing aquatic programs such as swimming lessons, youth swim team, and water aerobics.
4. Maintain accurate records of pool operations and ensure sanitary conditions.
5. Ensure pools meet health and safety standards, including water quality and temperature control.
6. Comply with uniform and safety regulations.
7. Attend all required training sessions.
8. Perform lifeguard surveillance and ensure coverage whenever the pool is in use.
9. Enforce pool rules to prevent emergencies and ensure conduct.
10. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Current Certification in Lifeguard Training, including Lifeguard skills, First Aid, and CPR/AED.
2. Certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI), with current certification.
3. Knowledge of pool health and safety standards or willingness to learn.
4. Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends.
5. Must be 18 years or older.
6. Good judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites preferred.
9. Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-oriented environments.

This position is covered by a waiver from the Boston Residency Ordinance until January 4, 2027.
