Job summary

The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence is seeking a Lifeguard to provide direct supervision and assistance during pool programming. You will work closely with staff and individuals, ensuring safety and engagement in activities around the pool area.

Ideal candidates hold a valid NYS driver’s license and lifeguard/First Aid/CPR certifications, and may join a program with flexible full/part-time hours according to needs.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; experience with individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Certifications: Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR; valid NYS driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and assist staff and individuals during pool programming.
• Complete accident/incident reports.
• Document progress toward individuals' goals weekly.
• Monitor pool equipment and report repairs.
• Infection control in locker rooms.
• Assist with community integration opportunities and daily recreation when pool is closed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work – May be full time or part time, depending on the needs of the program and the hours needed.

Qualifications – HS diploma or GED; experience working with the intellectually and developmentally disabled preferred. Relevant Certifications- Valid/acceptable NYS driver’s license; Lifeguard Certification and First Aid and CPR Certification

Work Authorization/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States.

Summary/Objective – The lifeguard has the primary responsibility of providing direct supervision and assisting participating staff and individuals during pool programming. The person is required to spend the majority of his/her time in direct contact with pool participants.

Support the goals, objectives, and philosophy of the agency.

Will support the Agency’s values by working with measurable signs of PRIDE.

Essential Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Will maintain daily participant attendance sheet.
• Will complete accident/incident reports.
• Will ensure daily documentation of all individual’s goals.
• Will maintain weekly contact with Program Director to report progress and ensure open lines of communication.
• Will monitor pool equipment on a daily basis and report repair needs to Program Director.
• Will be responsible for infection control in the locker rooms.
• Will launder suits/towels as needed.
• When pool is closed for any reason, Lifeguard will assume responsibilities/duties assigned by Program Director. These duties include:
  • assisting with community integration opportunities
  • daily recreational activities
  • special activities
  • behavior management
  • and/or general classroom supervision, as need
• Other duties as assigned by the director or designee.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 30 pounds. Will be required to get in the pool and interact with those in the pool.
