The Coney Island YMCA is seeking Lifeguards who will be responsible for maintaining safe conditions in and around the branch's swim area. The Lifeguards will promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA aquatics policies and procedures.**Key Responsibilities:*** Must be Rescue Ready: uniform, pocket face mask/gloves, whistle, and rescue tube.* Continuous and active scanning of the pool.* Attend mandatory in-service training on a monthly basis.* Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.* Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.* When not lifeguarding, perform secondary duties as requested, such as cleaning/sorting aquatics equipment, testing chemicals, tidying the pool deck, and/or assisting instructors.* Maintain positive relationships with members and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with difficult situations.* Follow the directions of the YMCA of Greater New York Aquatic Supervisors, in accordance with the YMCA Aquatic Standards.* Must attain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days of hire and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire.* Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness. Responsible for recertification before expiration.* Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.**Desired Skills & Experience:*** High School Diploma or equivalent desirable.* Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
