Job summary

The YMCA of South Alabama, Inc. seeks a part-time Lifeguard at the John McClure Snook Family YMCA in Foley, AL. You will maintain pool safety, monitor the area, and enforce rules to ensure a safe and engaging environment for members.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills to YMCA standards.
• Takes responsibility for keeping certifications up to date.
• Physical ability to rescue distressed swimmers.
• Hear noises and distress signals around the pool area.
• Meet strength and lifting requirements.
• Observe all sections of assigned zone or area.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds immediately to emergencies per YMCA policies.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff.
• Applies safety rules and keeps required records per health codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Checks pool for hazards on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and acts accordingly.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
• Cleans pool, sauna and hot tub as directed.

Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Beware of persons in hot tub/sauna.2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.3. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.4. Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.5. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.6. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.7. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.8.
