Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools is seeking an on-site Lifeguard at the Ann Arbor Open School to supervise pool activities for adaptive physical education students and enforce pool rules. The role requires vigilance, emergency readiness, and professional conduct to ensure safety during aquatic activities.

Responsibilities include maintaining constant supervision, providing emergency care until EMS arrives, and supporting the physical education teacher with instruction and facility upkeep.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Current First Aid / CPR and Lifeguard Certification required.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in lifeguarding and/or aquatic activities desired.

Responsibilities

• Must have availability Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-11:30am.
• Maintains constant surveillance in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of students in the event of emergency.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS).
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times.
• Maintains high standard of customer service.
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain clean and safe facility.
• Support physical education teacher as needed during instruction.
• Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Summary

Responsible for the safety and well-being of adaptive physical education students under assigned supervision in the pool area. Responsible for enforcing established pool rules and regulations.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

• Possession of current, valid licensing or certification as it applies to this position
• Certification in the appropriate level and subject is required for teachers
• Dual or multiple certifications for teachers is preferred

Copies of an active Michigan Teaching Certificate and college transcripts are required with the application packet. Original certificate and certified transcripts are required prior to being hired.
