Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a resilient LSS Mechanical Engineer to support the AxPLSS team in developing, maturing, and operating spaceflight hardware for EVA spacesuits. You will own the product delivery timeline from concept through on-orbit services, contributing to multiple mission environments in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include drafting CAD models and analyses, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring design quality through testing and documentation.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; 3+ years life support engineering preferred.
• Experience with space environments and how they affect design decisions.
• Experience defining engineering standards, processes, and practices.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, and/or assembling hardware.
• Track record of delivering outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Familiarity with flight hardware development and certification preferred.
• Knowledge of NASA or commercial space program standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define and create modern space suit standards and practices; drive production and operation.
• Generate/review CAD models, schematics, drawings, analyses, and procedures for components and suit assemblies.
• Proficient with mechanical design tools and analysis tools; ensure design integrity.
• Establish efficient product lifecycle from supply chain to final integration balancing cost, complexity, and quality.
• Validate designs by analysis or test; produce development articles as needed.
• Lead design and production reviews with suppliers and customers.
• Support manufacturing and assembly of hardware in facility and on-orbit operations.
• Communicate project progress, status, and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
• Implement and maintain agile project management throughout the lifecycle.
