Job summary

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is seeking a Life Support Laboratory Team Lead to oversee the Life Support Laboratory operations, including staffing, inventory control, water chemistry, and safety adherence. You will ensure regulatory compliance and coordinate with veterinary and management teams.

Responsibilities include budgeting support, purchasing oversight, and communicating test results via OERCA and real-time adjustments with the Life Support Team.

Qualifications

• Experience in water quality testing and lab operations.

• Proven ability to communicate results to stakeholders effectively.
• Skill in using standard office software (MS Office).

• Oversee purchasing of materials and supplies for the Laboratory.
• Communicate testing results to Attending Veterinarian Team and Management via OERCA.
• Communicate results to Life Support Team for real time adjustments.
• Oversee the Laboratory’s safety program and enforce policies.
• Interface with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies to maintain standards.
• Ensure facilities comply with regulatory and accrediting requirements.
• Enforce departmental policies and perform other duties as requested.

Overview

Responsible for the overall operation of the Life Support Laboratory including staffing, inventory control, water chemistry, quality control, and adherence to governmental and safety policies.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of the Life Support Laboratory

• Operate and maintain all related equipment and chemical processes
• Assist in preparation of annual budget under the direction of the Life Support Supervisor
• Oversee the purchasing of new materials and supplies for the Laboratory
• Communicate testing results to Attending Veterinarian Team and Management via the OERCA Animal Welfare Application
• Communicate testing results to the Life Support Team for real time adjustments
• Oversee the Laboratory’s safety program and enforce safety policies and procedures
• Interface with regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations to maintain all standards accordingly.
• Work in concert with Life Support Supervisor to ensure all facilities are complaint with both regulatory and accrediting organization as appropriate.
• Enforce all departmental policies as needed; follow and enforce all polices of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
• Other duties as requested

Qualifications

• 1-3 years previous experience as a Water Quality Laboratory Technician (AZA or ZAA Affiliation Preferred)
• AALSO Water Quality Certification Preferred
• Experience with OERCA Animal Welfare Application preferred
• Must have a thorough working knowledge of water chemistry, as it applies to a wide variety of systems including marine mammal, fish and avian systems
• Must be able to work in all types of weather both indoors and outdoors
• Must be able to deal effectively with other professionals and governmental agencies
• Must possess excellent organizational skills
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
• Must possess good corrected/uncorrected eyesight.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Applications
