Job summary

The Orchards at Canterbury on the Lake is seeking a Life Enrichment Assistant to support the Life Enrichment Director in implementing programs that meet residents’ interests, purposes, and social needs. You will collaborate with the care team to promote a person-centered culture and assist residents during activities and meals.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with CNA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current chauffeur's license if operating transportation vehicles; CDL if applicable.
• Preferred CNA certification; 1 year experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively implements life enrichment programs to meet residents' needs and interests.
• Communicates residents' needs and changes to the Life Enrichment Director.
• Assists residents to and from activities and outings as scheduled.
• Maintains good rapport with families and encourages family involvement in programs.
• Assists residents during meals and snacks to promote social interaction.
• Documents residents' attendance and participation in activities in the POC system.
• Contributes to assessment input and evaluation of resident participation when requested.
• Communicates residents' concerns to the supervisor; supports resident preferences and routines.
• Assists volunteers and volunteers' programs at the Director's request.
• Assists with ADL needs that arise during activities (toileting, eating/drinking).
• Participates in long-term care survey processes, regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Overview

The Life Enrichment Assistant works with the Life Enrichment Director to implement programs that support the interests, purposes and social needs of residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Must possess a current chauffeurs license if operating transportation vehicles and possess a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) if applicable.
• Preferred Certified as a Nursing Assistant – 1-year experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enjoys socializing, has an outgoing and friendly personality
• Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.

Care and Services:

• Actively implements life enrichment programs as planned and assigned to meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each Resident.
• Honors the individual needs and preferences of residents and communicates well changes, requests and interests of residents with the Director of Life Enrichment.
• Assists Residents to and from life enrichment programs and outing as scheduled.
• Maintains good rapport with family members and encourages family support in programs.
• Assists residents during meals and snacks encouraging an atmosphere of socialization.
• Completes appropriate records indicating Resident’s attendance and participation in individual and group activities in a timely basis.Documents ADL support functions in the POC system.
• Provides input to the assessment and evaluation of Residents participation when requested.
• Communicates Resident’s concerns and responses to interventions to immediate supervisor.
• Supports Residents individual needs, and preferences, customary routines, concerns and choices.
• Assist and works with individual volunteers and volunteer programs at the request of the Life enrichment Director.
• Assists residents with ADL needs that arise during planned activities such as toileting or eating/drinking.
• Participates in long term care survey process, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the work place; and demonstrates understanding of cross contamination.

Information Management:

Enters or records data timely and accurately; protects confidentiality of resident information (in accordance with HIPAA policies); protects data against loss or destruction; reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues.

Continuing Education:

Attends in-service training programs; attends continuing education required for maintenance of certification.
