The Merrimack County Department of Corrections serves the community and its criminal justice system by providing security, supervision, and assistance to persons remanded to our custody. Our policy is to meet or exceed the standards set by the American Correctional Association, the National Commission of Correctional Healthcare, the New Hampshire Association of Counties, and the Merrimack County Board of Commissioners.

Exercise significant discretion in providing day-to-day supervision and assistance to Sergeants, officers and correctional staff assigned to his/her command, conduct performance evaluations, take corrective or disciplinary action when appropriate andremoving employees from the facility. Review and enforce discipline, orderly behavior and confinement of incarcerated inmates as well as to ensure security within the correctional facility.

EDUCATION:

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Fiveyears of correctional experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge’s, skills and abilities.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification or ability to obtain certification as a Certified Correctional Officer by the New Hampshire Association of Counties. Must possess a valid New Hampshire driver's license or other state if residence is outside of NH. A drug screen & background check will be required of all conditional hires.
