Job summary

Aurora is seeking a student for a Lidar R&D internship in Bozeman, MT. You will model, simulate, and test coherent optical beam propagation and tailor the project to your interests under a mentor from our Lidar team.

In this on-site role, you will join a fast-moving, safety-conscious environment that values collaboration. Pay ranges by degree: $44/hour for bachelor’s, $47/hour for master’s, $52/hour for doctoral students.

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or Material Science with emphasis on optics or photonics.
• Demonstrates passion for solving challenging, impactful problems as part of a team and a "win together" mindset.
• Experience characterizing laser beams and/or lidar measurements (desirable).

What we are looking for

The Lidar R&D team investigates architectures and systems for the next generation of FirstLight lidar sensors, focusing on free-space optics, coherent optical propagation and interaction with the environment, and lidar signal processing — theoretically, experimentally, and in simulation.

In this role you will

• Actively contribute to modeling, simulation, and testing of coherent optical beam propagation
• Have the project customized to your interests and background, in partnership with your mentor

Required qualifications

• Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or Material Science with an emphasis on optics or photonics

Compensation

The hourly pay rate for this internship in Bozeman is:

• $44.00 per hour for interns pursuing a bachelor’s degree;
• $47.00 per hour for interns pursuing a master’s degree; and
• $52.00 per hour for interns pursuing a doctoral degree.
