Job description

Company Overview

Blue Energy’s mission is to unlock energy abundance, energy affordability, energy security, and turn-key decarbonization by developing the fastest path to deploying new nuclear MWs at scale. We are utilizing shipyard manufacturing supply chains and techniques from offshore oil and wind to reduce the cost of nuclear plants by over 60% and the manufacturing timeline to 24 months. Blue Energy is a platform technology that makes use of the latest NRC-approved reactors and is in negotiations with existing nuclear and industrial sites, enabling a much faster regulatory pathway to deploy our first unit. With our innovative centralized shipyard manufacturing approach, we can put nuclear power on a cost-reduction learning curve akin to wind, solar, and lithium-ion batteries.

Position Overview

Blue Energy is seeking motivated and talented licensing interns to join our multidisciplinary team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the analysis and development of our innovative nuclear power plants. This role will give you hands‑on experience in various licensing aspects, working closely with our experienced licensing engineers to develop materials for engagement with the NRC leading up to our licensing application submission.

A Day in the Life

As an intern at Blue Energy, you will:

  • Participate in Licensing Activities: Contribute to conceptual and detailed design efforts under the guidance of senior engineers. You’ll have the chance to apply engineering principles to solve real‑world challenges.

  • Hands‑on Learning: Assist in reviewing models, report generation, optimizing plant layouts, and working with our vendors. Our proximity to a cutting‑edge shipyard will provide you with unique learning opportunities.

  • Collaborative Problem‑Solving: Work alongside engineers on projects that require innovative thinking and adaptability. You will help document and analyze new approaches to accelerate the deployment of our nuclear power plants.

  • Exposure to Industry Standards: Learn about the regulatory landscape and industry standards relevant to nuclear and structural engineering, and how they apply to real‑world projects.

You will thrive in this role if you are:

  • Excellent at Writing and Communicating: You can explain anything to anyone, verbally or in written form.

  • Passionate about Engineering: You have a strong interest in mechanical, nuclear, or structural engineering and are eager to learn more.

  • Curious and Inquisitive: You love exploring new ideas and are always ready to dive into new concepts or technologies.

  • Pragmatic and Creative: You approach problems with a mix of creativity and practicality, looking for the simplest and most effective solutions.

Qualifications/Helpful Background

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics or a related field.

  • Experienced technical writer, either writing for fun or academic publications.

  • Familiarity with engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) is a plus but not required.

  • Exposure to engineering analysis tools, such as CFD or FEA is a plus but not required.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • An interest in learning about industry codes and standards, as well as gaining hands‑on experience in engineering projects.

Blue Energy is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
