Job summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas is seeking compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to join our pediatric specialty team. You’ll provide direct nursing care to children with complex medical, rehabilitation, behavioral health, and neurodevelopmental needs under supervision of RN, APRN, or physician.

This night-shift, full-time position offers collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of RNs, therapists, and behavioral health professionals.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program required.
  • 1–2 years of pediatric nursing experience preferred in an acute care setting.
  • Experience caring for medical, behavioral health, developmental, or neurodevelopmental diagnoses is preferred.
  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the State of Texas; BLS/ACLS/PALS per unit requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients under supervision of an RN, APRN, or physician.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely within LVN scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient condition and communicate changes to supervising staff.
  • Participate in implementation of individualized nursing and interdisciplinary care plans.

Our LVNs care for children and adolescents withcomplex medical, rehabilitation, behavioral health, and neurodevelopmental needs. What You'll Do

As an LVN, you'll provide safe, compassionate nursing care under the supervision of an RN, APRN, or physician while supporting each patient's individualized plan of care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients with medical, rehabilitation, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Monitor patients for changes in medical condition, behavior, and overall status.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the supervising RN or provider.
  • Participate in the implementation of individualized nursing and interdisciplinary care plans.
  • Reinforce patient and family education regarding medications, conditions, treatments, and coping strategies.
  • Support patients experiencing behavioral or emotional challenges using approved de‑escalation and behavioral support techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, physicians, therapists, and other members of the care team.
  • Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for patients with developmental and behavioral needs.
  • Support continuity of care and safe patient transitions.
  • Follow established infection prevention, patient safety, and emergency response protocols.
  • Accurately and promptly document nursing care, patient observations, interventions, and responses in the electronic health record.
  • Advocate for patients by communicating their needs and concerns to the appropriate RN or provider.
  • Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives throughout the hospital.
What We're Looking For

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program required.

Experience

  • 1–2 years of pediatric nursing experience preferred, particularly in an acute care environment.
  • Inpatient, rehabilitation, acute care, or post‑acute hospital experience preferred.
  • Experience caring for patients withmedical, behavioral health, developmental, or neurodevelopmental diagnoses strongly preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
  • CurrentLicensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the State of Texas required.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • ACLS certification required per unit requirements.
  • PALS certification required per unit requirements.
  • De‑escalation training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Required licenses and certifications must remain current and in good standing throughout employment.
