We arerecruiting Licensed Vocational Nurses for correctional healthcare facilities inPalestine, Texas. This is a contract opportunity with 11 openings.

LVNs in this role provide nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic and preventive care appropriate for inmate health and safety. Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides nursing services, treatments, and diagnosticand preventive procedures appropriate for inmate care and safety.
• Interprets physicians' orders and administers prescribed medication.
• Assists the physician with sick call when a physician is present, observes signs and symptoms during sick call when no physician is present.
• Applies surgical dressings and bandages and providesemergency first aid care.
• Checks and records vital signs.
• Instructs inmates concerning discharge planning and provides health care education to inmates.
• Reports reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in inmates’ emotional or physical condition.
• May instruct and supervise correctional staff concerning inmate health care and needs.
• Consults with the supervisor on problem cases.
• Check and order supplies and maintains accurate medical records.

Requirements

Required

• Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program.
• Current license or permit as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas.
• 1 year or more of experience in medical-surgical (Med-Surg) or long-term acute care (LTAC).
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) certification.
• IV Therapy certification. Candidates without one must be willing to obtain it.

New Graduates

• This position requires 1 year or more of Med-Surg or LTAC experience, so it is not open to new graduates.
