The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) provides life‑saving care to animals that have suffered cruelty, neglect, or financial hardship. The Hospital collaborates with internal partners (ASPCA Adoption Center, Kitten Nursery, Community Advocate Team) and external partners (NYPD, NYC organizations) to deliver subsidized medical care to animals whose owners cannot afford treatment.
Job Title: Licensed Veterinary Technician – Full‑time, New York City Metropolitan Area
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high‑quality care to outpatients and hospitalized patients using Fear Free Guidelines.
- Perform technical nursing skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic imaging, critical care, pharmacology, and dentistry.
- Document and communicate patient status changes to the Veterinarian and Laboratory Veterinary Technician.
- Feed and medicate patients following veterinary and LVT instructions; lift patients up to 40 lb.
- Collaborate professionally with ASPCA department managers and staff; attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain high‑quality standard of care, work ethic, and performance; work independently and as part of a team under challenging conditions.
- Support organization and departmental policies and protocols; provide regular feedback about training needs and hospital needs.
Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician – American Association of Veterinary State Boards.
- Basic to advanced computer skills, including Excel, Microsoft Office, and ImproMed.
- Completion of the Fear Free 8 module course or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire.
- Knowledge of shelter medicine and operations; knowledge of veterinary hospital protocols and procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills; outstanding interpersonal communication and ability to work in a team environment or independently.
- High degree of integrity and accountability; sense of humor that balances flexibility and enthusiasm.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lb; able to work standing for 10 or more hours.
- Preferred proficiency in Impromed.
- English required; Spanish preferred.
- Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technician (preferred); Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technician (preferred).
Compensation and Benefits
- Target hiring range: $34.60 – $37.00 per hour; salary may increase above the maximum based on performance.
