Position Overview:
The Licensed School Counselor supports the mission, vision, and core values of Memphis Business Academy Schools by providing comprehensive counseling, behavioral, social-emotional, and academic support to students. Reporting to the Principal and designated Network Administrators, the Counselor collaborates with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to promote student success and achievement.
The Counselor will develop and implement behavioral and social-emotional interventions, support students with challenging behaviors, assist with IEP, 504, and SST processes, and provide guidance and resources to school staff and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create, manage, and maintain the school Master Schedule in PowerSchool. This is a mandatory responsibility of the position.
- Provide individual, small-group, and whole-group counseling and social-emotional support.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Collect, analyze, and monitor behavioral data and student progress.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure interventions are implemented with fidelity.
- Provide coaching, modeling, consultation, and support to teachers and staff.
- Provide social skills instruction using research-based strategies and approved curricula.
- Participate in IEP, 504, SST, and other student support meetings.
- Collaborate with families, school personnel, agencies, and community partners as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and intervention documentation.
- Conduct staff training and workshops related to classroom management, behavioral strategies, and de-escalation.
- Support the AIMS Program (Academic Interventions & Motivational Strategies).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Tennessee Department of Education Licensed Guidance Counselor –Required
- Bachelor’s Degree –Required
- Two (2) or more years of experience working with students in an educational or residential setting –Required
- Experience with Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Support Plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, behavioral interventions, and social-emotional support.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage challenging and emotionally charged situations professionally.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
- CPI training or experience with positive behavioral and de-escalation strategies –Required/Preferred, as applicable
- Demonstrated proficiency in PowerSchool Master Scheduling – Required.
- Must have hands-on experience creating, managing, modifying, and maintaining a school-wide Master Schedule in PowerSchool. This is a mandatory qualification.
- Specialization in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field – Preferred.
