Job summary

Guthrie is hiring an LPN in Sayre, PA to support physicians in a busy practice. The role covers patient prep, injections, referrals, and coordination with other staff. Weekly travel to Big Flats, Corning, and Ithaca is reimbursed, with no weekends or holidays, and a sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

Office hours are 8am–5pm, with interview-based scheduling. This position requires an LPN license and offers tuition reimbursement and retirement benefits.

Qualifications

• Licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the state of practice.
• One year healthcare experience preferred but not required.
• Experience assisting in office and clinical procedures is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Direct patients to exam rooms and prepare them for procedures.
• Assist in prescribing processes with surgeon/provider authorization as needed.
• Coordinate referrals by phone, fax, or email and document referrals.
• Provide coverage for other LPNs and clerical staff as needed; maintain computer skills.
• Maintain exam rooms and stock supplies; order medications or equipment as requested.
• Administer injections/medications per physician orders and document in chart.
• Guide patients to additional testing areas and schedule follow-ups.
• Maintain knowledge of medications and their effects.
• Read and discuss pathology results with patients.
• Set up and tear down sterile fields and maintain infection control.
• Understand basic surgical instruments and prepare trays for procedures.
• Assist surgeon in office or operating room as needed.
• Train on autoclave sterilization and related protocols.
• Monitor signs of infection and report to surgeon/provider.
• Perform high-level disinfection as required by equipment.
• Attend orientation and mandatory trainings.
• Adhere to Guthrie dress code and participate in department meetings.

Position Summary:

Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license

Education, License & Cert:

LPN ‑ Must be licensed in the state of practice.

Experience:

One‑year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required

Essential Functions:

1. 1. Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Will also interview patient to obtain history allergies, reconciles medication list and records on chart as requested.
2. 2. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient’s chart
3. 3. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested.
4. 4. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA’s as requested. Answers telephone and performs other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need). Must train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested. 5. 5. Attends to exam and procedure rooms, including assurance that proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested.
6. 6. Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient’s chart
7. 7. Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow‑up appointments, i.e. Blood work, x‑rays, and enter lab testing as requested.
8. 8. Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.)
9. 9. Be able to read and review pathology results with patients
10. 10. Setup and tear down sterile fields
11. 11. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments
12. 12. Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day.
13. 13. Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and Operating Room if necessary
14. 14. Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave
15. 15. Proficient with autoclave sterilization process
16. 16. Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal
17. 17. Assess signs and symptoms of infection and reporting to surgeon and/or provider
18. 18. Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse
19. 19. May perform high level disinfection, based on departmental equipment.

Other Duties:

1. 1. As assigned as appropriate for LPN licensure
2. 2. Attend new employee orientation and all mandatory events such as in‑services, classes, training as required by the organization
3. 3. Complies with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie
4. 4. Attends and participates in Department meetings, along with contributing to department/office goals
