Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the State Correctional Institution Albion. The role provides direct nursing care to inmates with diverse medical and behavioral needs, within a correctional setting, under supervision of clinical staff.

The LPN will perform nursing care, assess inmates, respond to emergencies with CPR/AED when needed, maintain electronic health records, and manage supplies.

• Possession of PA LPN license or temporary permits with forthcoming licensure within 1 year.

This position provides direct nursing care to inmates with a wide range of medical and behavioral needs within the correctional setting.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Nursing Care: Carry out nursing care plans by taking vital signs, giving medications, and performing treatments
• Patient Support: Observe inmate behavior and report physical and emotional needs to clinical staff
• Emergency Response:Provide first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or automated external defibrillator (AED) support during medical emergencies
• Record Management:Update electronic health records and prepare reports for transfers or releases
• Supply Oversight:Sterilize equipment and maintain adequate stock of medical supplies
• Skill Development: Attend required trainings and meetings to maintain clinical competencies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by 3 work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM; and 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.

• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
