Responsibilities

• Assists the physician in assessing patient needs based on data collected through history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage and analysis of diagnostic data.
• Performs direct patient care such as triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge and follow-up instructions.
• Forms the initial database by collecting pertinent information through patient/family communication, observation and evaluation; documents vital signs, history and chief complaint.
• Records data in the patient’s medical record as appropriate.
• Performs specialized tests (audiometry, ECG, inhalation treatments, selected labs).
• Prepares medications and administers injections as ordered by the physician.
• Assists physician with treatments and procedures; provides patient education.
• Schedules testing and referral appointments per physician instructions.
• Consults with patients via telephone and follows up as needed.
• Cleans and maintains examination rooms per OSHA standards.
