Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse to provide advanced level nursing care, monitor patient conditions, and assist with procedures during full-time night shifts. Responsibilities include patient safety, documentation, and education for patients and families.

Eligible candidates have an LPN license, 1 year of relevant experience, and BLS certification; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on unit. Sign-on bonus eligible. Weekend and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• Certificate program post-high school vocational or specialized training required.
• 1 year relevant experience required.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure required upon hire.
• Multi-state LPN license required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• ACLS/PALS certification, as required.

Responsibilities

• Administers and controls narcotics and medications under supervision.
• Provides general nursing and personal care (bathing, dressing, eating, turning, etc.).
• Maintains safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment per hospital standards.
• Checks vital signs and monitors patient condition; reports changes.
• Prepares patients for procedures and assists with exams/procedures.
• Assists physicians with examinations, procedures, and direct patient care.
• Arranges for ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Documents and maintains patient records with confidentiality.
• Performs nursing administrative duties and ensures supplies and equipment function.

Essential Functions

• Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications.
• Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients.
• Checks patient's vital signs.
• Charts results of various tests.
• Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
• Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
• Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
• Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
• Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
• Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.

Common Expectations

• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
• Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
• Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
• Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
