Licensed Practical Nurse-Orthopaedics - Full Time
Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license.
Education, License & Cert
LPN – Must be licensed in the state of practice.
Experience
One year of experience in the healthcare field preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
- Direct patients to the exam room and prepare them for exam or treatment by taking height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, and additional testing; record the data.
- Write or call prescriptions after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization, and chart the medication in the patient’s chart.
- Email, fax or call insurance referrals; follow up with referral number if requested.
- Assist in departmental operations by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and MOAs as requested; answer the telephone and perform clerical functions as necessary.
- Attend exam and procedure rooms to ensure proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness; order medications or clinical supplies as needed.
- Administer prescribed injections/medications and record them on the patient’s chart.
- Route the patient after exam to the proper area for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments, e.g., blood work, x‑rays, or lab testing as requested.
- Have basic knowledge of medications (side effects, contraindications, etc.).
- Be able to read and review pathology results with patients.
- Set up and tear down sterile fields.
- Have basic knowledge of surgical instruments.
- Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day.
- Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and operating room if necessary.
- Maintain infection control measures, including proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of the autoclave.
- Be proficient with the autoclave sterilization process.
- Know and perform dressing changes and suture removal.
- Assess signs and symptoms of infection and report to the surgeon or provider.
- Perform hepatitis checks and follow protocol to protect the surgeon, patient, and nurse.
- May perform high‑level disinfection based on departmental equipment.
Other Duties
- Perform duties appropriate for LPN licensure as assigned.
- Attend new employee orientation and all mandatory events such as in‑services, classes, and training.
- Comply with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie.
- Attend and participate in department meetings and contribute to department/office goals.
