Lehigh Valley Health Network invites applications for the OR LPN Internship, a full-time paid 16 to 18-week program designed to train Licensed Practical Nurses in the perioperative scrub role across LVHN surgical campuses and specialties.

Interns will learn asepsis principles, instrument handling, and operate within the surgical team under guidance. Placement in a LVHN campus is determined by departmental needs.

Responsibilities of the scrub and circulating nurse, basic principles of asepsis, ethical-legal aspects and the preparation, care and application of surgical supplies and equipment will be presented. Interns will have an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in the clinical setting and have the experience and support to successfully complete the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses(AORN) Perioperative 101: A Core Curriculum. Clinical orientation success and departmental needs determine intern placement in a full-time position at a LVHN surgical campus.**Summary** Participates as a member of the surgical team by scrubbing to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure while staying vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field. Anticipates the need of the surgeon and handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. **Job Duties*** Facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures and ensures that the operating room is a safe environment.* Performs appropriate surgical counts according to facility policy and organizes case carts for upcoming procedures.* Works in collaboration with the operating room circulator prior to a surgical procedure by preparing the operating room, gathering and preparing sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.* Prepares and maintains the sterile field using sterile and aseptic techniques and ensures that the surgical equipment is functioning properly and safely.* Performs in-between case cleaning turnover in the operating room suite.**Minimum Qualifications*** Technical School Diploma LPN Program* Less than 1 year* Ability to initiate, accept and adapt to constant change within a healthcare setting.* Effective communication and customer service skills.* Knowledge of medical and surgical supplies and sterile techniques.* Time management and organizational skills.* American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania* LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse\\_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire**Physical Demands** Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. \\*Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
