Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking an LPN to provide direct patient care under RN supervision, leveraging nursing theory and practice learned in an accredited program. A one-year acute care experience is preferred.

This role requires strong interpersonal and documentation skills, ability to manage stressful situations, and adherence to GBMC’s values in delivering compassionate care to patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Delegates care to non-licensed staff when appropriate and reports to RN.
  • Gives thorough, concise reports on patient status changes to the RN.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job description

Under direct supervision of the registered nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients.

Education Knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through an accredited school of nursing.

Experience One-year acute care experience preferred

Skills
  • Interpersonal skills, communication (verbal and written) are required in order to instruct and comfort patients and their families and maintain effective contacts with a variety of hospital personnel and maintain appropriate/adequate documentation.
  • Ability to perform and plan professional nursing care resolving complex patient care problems and dealing with patients and their families often during stressful situations.
Licensures, Certifications
  • Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification) – not required for Hospice employee.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk almost constantly (up to 90% of work time) and occasionally (up to 50% of work time) lifting and positioning patients.
Working Conditions
  • Normal patient care environment with exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.
  • Possibly exposed to adverse working conditions due to performance of patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in gathering data to assess the physical, psychological, social, spiritual needs of patients.
  • Collaborates with the registered nurse and interdisciplinary/team members in planning for the needs of patients upon admission.
  • Reviews the care plans and provides input into updating and revising.
  • Supports in direct patient care to assigned patients utilizing clinical nursing skills and judgement.
  • Provides education and reinforcement of education for patients and family, and documents outcome in the medical record.
  • Initiates appropriate emergency measures when patient's condition dictates need.
  • Prepares patients for tests and procedures.
  • Administers and documents medications according to policy and procedure.
  • Can appropriately delegate care to non-licensed personnel and report to the Registered nurse.
  • Report to the Registered nurse with a thorough concise report on patient condition changes or evaluation of interventions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Pay Range

$22.27 - $34.49 Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
