Job summary

Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Medical-Surgical unit. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you’ll provide nursing care within your scope and document medications, vitals, and procedures to ensure safe, effective care.

The role emphasizes communication with the RN and team, ongoing training, and participation in quality improvement activities. Must hold an LPN license and BLS certification; CPI/PEARS preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Must possess a current, valid LPN license in state of practice or temporary LPN license in state of practice.
  • BLS required. PEARS preferred, CPI preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under RN supervision, administer medications using the medication administration system and document administration.
  • Record vital signs and procedures and update the RN with patient status.
  • Communicate medication information and any changes to the RN and other providers.
  • Contribute to professional quality indicators and outcomes through participation in meetings and training.

Minimum QualificationsEducationGraduate of an accredited nursing program.CredentialsMust possess a current, valid LPN license in state of practice or temporary LPN license in state of practice.BLS required. PEARS preferred, completion of CPI preferredWork EnvironmentA patient care setting. Exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious disease, hazardous chemicals, dangerous fumes, medical gases, and exposure to out of control patients, which may result in physical and/or verbal abuse.Physical DemandsAble to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair.May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.May require periodic use of personal computer.Essential FunctionsUnder the direction of the Registered Nurse, utilizes the medication administration system to provide patients with their medication.Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides patients with information on their medication.Provides communication and updates to the RN and other providers related to perceived reactions or changes to patient's condition. Accurately records medications provided to the patient and documents vital signs and procedures completed as well as the equipment utilized.Monitors the patients for safety in the department.Attends department meetings and educational sessions; assists in training new department staff.Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
