Job summary

New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS) invites a licensed practical nurse to join our Brooklyn team. You will manage EMR data, assist physicians, prep exam rooms, and support injections and phlebotomy while ensuring patient education and safety.

Requirements include a current NYS LPN license, BLS, IV competency, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Travel to NYCBS locations may be needed to support patient care.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain the electronic medical record with up-to-date vital signs, demographics, medication reconciliation, allergies, and diagnoses.
• Manage physician inbox messages and prioritize tasks via EMR.
• Assist in maintaining medical inventory and stock rooms; place orders as needed.
• Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and provide patient education on medications and disease management.
• Assist physicians with exams and procedures; prepare and administer injections.
• Perform phlebotomy and collect lab specimens; handle point-of-care testing and EKGs.
• Administer and document medications under physician orders, following five rights and minimizing errors.
• Be cross-trained in infusion and intake processes.

Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Hours/Days: 4/10 hour shifts, Mon, Wed-Fri 8:00am-6:00pm, RDO Tuesday

Organization: New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS)

In This Role, You Will

• Update and maintain the electronic medical record with up to date vital signs, patient demographics, medication reconciliation, allergies and medical diagnoses.
• Manage Physician inbox messages and prioritize tasks assigned via the electronic medical record.
• Assist in maintaining the medical inventory; place orders for new materials and stock rooms to ensure adequate supplies for physician staff.
• Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
• Escort patients to exam rooms.
• Provide patient education concerning medications, management of diseases, home treatments, and special diets.
• Assist physician with exams and/or procedures.
• Prepare and administer Injections.
• Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
• Perform point of care lab testing.
• Perform EKGs.
• Administer and document medication under a physician’s order and follows the five (5) medication rights and reduce the potential for medical error.
• Be cross‑trained in infusion & intake.

We Require

• Current NYS LPN license required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• IV Competency required.
• Consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
• Experience with EMR’s.
• Reliable transportation to any of NYCBS location for patient care needs.
