Job summary

Wellpath in Utah Davis County Jail is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to contribute to patient care under RN supervision. The role emphasizes assessment, planning, and execution of nursing tasks in a correctional health setting.

We offer training opportunities, a part-time day shift (12-hour), and compensation between $31.64 and $35.15 per hour. Applicants must graduate from an accredited nursing program, hold LPN/LVN licensure in the state, and have CPR certification; one year of

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Prefer a minimum of one year clinic experience.
  • Current LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Under RN supervision, assesses patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions and contributes to individualized treatment planning.
  • Administers medications and provides IV therapy (if certified) per established protocols.
  • Counts controlled substances at the start of each shift and responds to health emergencies per standard guidelines.
  • Assists in medical or minor surgical procedures and documents nursing encounters using SOAP charting.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and trainings to maintain high-quality patient care.

How you make a difference

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in patient care by contributing to the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the supervision of RN(s), the LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities that align with their education and demonstrated competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under RN supervision, assesses patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions in both the Health Care Unit and housing units, contributing to individualized treatment planning and consulting with RNs and staff as needed.
  • Implements treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, administering medications, including IV therapy (if certified), and performing diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborates in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift, adhering to safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions while responding to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
  • Assists in medical or minor surgical procedures, implements nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and documents nursing encounters using SOAP charting, ensuring effective communication with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high-quality patient care.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
  • Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience
Licenses/Certifications
  • Have and maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse within the state of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
