We are seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to provide medical care to individuals housed at a corrections facility based in Detroit.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the LPN will work under the supervision of the RN Manager and play an essential role in supporting patient care, improving clinical workflow, assisting with medication management, and maintain accurate medical documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Registered Nurses with intake assessments by collecting patient histories, documenting presenting complaints, preparing detainees for RN evaluation, and creating medical charts.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including manual blood pressure verification when clinically indicated.
  • Support daily patient encounters, follow-up assessments, and reassessments within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Provide clinical assistance during high-volume periods to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Assist with medication verification by reviewing pharmacy records, contacting pharmacies as directed, and cross-referencing medication histories.
  • Support medication administration workflow while maintaining pharmacy logs, medication tracking records, and medication waste documentation.
  • Perform intake processing to maintain uninterrupted nursing workflow during medication pass and other high-volume clinical activities.
  • Enter and maintain accurate documentation within electronic tracking systems, including detainee encounters, intake assessments, hospital transfers, medication records, medical charts, inventory logs, invoices, and sign-in records.
  • Organize, file, and maintain medical records while assisting with chart audits and regulatory compliance reviews.
  • Assist with medical supply inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting supply shortages.
  • Provide clerical and operational support to the Nurse Manager and nursing department.
  • Maintain compliance with all facility policies, correctional healthcare standards, confidentiality requirements, and security procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with Registered Nurses, physicians, mental health professionals, pharmacists, correctional staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
Qualifications
  • Active and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; NCLEX-PN required.
  • Current BLS certification (required); ACLS preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; correctional or emergency nursing experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment under RN/physician supervision.
  • Strong clinical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
