Job summary

Management & Training Corporation is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Otero County Prison in Chaparral, New Mexico. The position offers a full-time schedule with rotating 3x12 night shifts and a $2,500 sign-on bonus. Pay rate is $28.54 per hour, plus a $2 night shift differential.

You will provide nursing care, document care, and coordinate with the nursing director on treatment decisions. Responsibilities include medication administration, maintaining strict security and HIPAA

Qualifications

• LPN program completion and valid NM or compact LPN license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid NM or TX driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for detainees and assist ill/injured individuals.
• Follow treatment protocols and consult nursing director for routine duties.
• Prepare examination room and equipment for clinicians.
• Administer medications and document administration.
• Maintain medication security and HIPAA compliance.
• Perform on-call work as required.
• Prepare and maintain medical records, logs and reports.
• Conduct chart reviews and assess detainees with serious health issues.
• Assist in emergency procedures and patient rescue during incidents.

What you'll do:

You’ll be responsible for providing nursing care and assistance for ill and/or injured persons. All decisions should be reviewed with the nursing director with the exception of routine duties assigned to the nurse (LPN) in compliance with MTC Medical and various customer directives.

Essential Responsibilities

• Under the direction of health services administrator, supervising nurse and professional service providers and in accordance with approved treatment protocol, assess condition of and prescribe treatment for detainees reporting to sick call.
• Assist with provider line; prepare examining room and equipment.
• Operate pill call, administer medication and document as required. This may include pushing and/or wheeling a pill cart on facility campus.
• Control medication, syringes and other medical supplies or equipment as required.
• Perform emergency procedures as needed and call the physician for treatment orders.
• Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Observe applicable HIPAA rules.
• Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
• Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
• Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.
• Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary and operational records, reports, and logs.
• Conduct chart review, review status of detainees with serious health problems for completion of all necessary intervention and treatment.
• Perform rescue functions for accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.

Education And Experience Requirements

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program, current, valid practical nursing license for the state of New Mexico or compact state. Must possess current CPR certification. Valid driver’s license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
