How You Make a Difference

The Float Nurse is a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN or LVN) responsible for providing patient care in a correctional setting by assisting in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They work under RN supervision, provide patient education, and perform activities within their competencies. They follow the Nursing Practice Act and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in patient assessment and treatment planning, consulting with RNs and staff as needed, following policies and procedures.
• Implement treatment plans under supervision, administer medications, and conduct diagnostic tests.
• Respond to emergencies, applying safety procedures.
• Assist with minor surgical procedures, nutritional, and therapeutic diet plans.
• Document encounters and communicate information appropriately.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience required
• Correctional healthcare experience preferred
• Willingness to travel 100% within the designated region

Licenses/Certifications

• Current licensure as LPN or LVN in practice states
• Current CPR certification

Additional Details

Must work 4 days per month, including one weekend, one major holiday, and one minor holiday.
