Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor, WA is seeking a licensed practical nurse (LPN4) to join the correctional health team. This full-time, 6:00am–2:30pm shift with Tue/Wed off supports patient care in a state facility.

Under RN supervision, the LPN4 will administer medications, document care, delegate tasks, and provide safe, compassionate nursing services to incarcerated individuals, focusing on preventive and acute care within state guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Two years' experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Current unencumbered LPN license in Washington state.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • WA licensure and eligibility for MLS/EDIR as required.
  • Proficient with computer-based scheduling, charting, and email.

Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm with Tuesday and Wednesday off

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) located in Gig Harbor, Washington.

The Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) is a 62.6-acre facility located approximately two miles from Gig Harbor. The site includes living units, administration buildings, a health clinic, education buildings, a gymnasium, a chapel, industries buildings, food service buildings and support facilities.

Correctional Health is a rewarding career path at DOC, in which health care professionals treat a wide array of cases for patients residing in a state correctional facility. Health Services is responsible for basic primary care for incarcerated individuals. All disciplines within all of the 12 correctional facilities work closely together to reach a common goal, providing the best, most efficient, and cost-effective health care possible. Emphasis is placed on early identification of health concerns, care for acute and chronic health problems, and preventive care.

Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the Department’s mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Use tools, techniques, and physical and cognitive skills and abilities to practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code so that patient care provided is safe, effective, efficient, and clinically appropriate.
  • Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.
  • Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times.
  • Provide effective communication and documentation.
  • Administer medication.
  • Provide competent patient care.
Required Qualifications:
  • Two years' experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • OR An unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State as outlined by the Nurse Licensure Compact and Department of Health with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
  • Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR.
  • Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.
