Department of Veterans Affairs’ Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting a Licensed Practical Nurse to work in Extended Care Service in the Community Living Center. The LPN will provide direct care, administer medications, and participate in planning and evaluating nursing care with the healthcare team.

Shifts include Sunday through Saturday, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with 80 hours per pay period. Telework is not available. This is a federal position under the Veterans Health Administration.

Qualifications

Education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
If using foreign education, provide a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcripts.

Responsibilities

Direct caregiver providing complex nursing care and specialized practical nursing activities.
Work independently with limited supervision and demonstrate independent technical judgment.
Serve as leader or co-leader for a group of patients and function as Charge Nurse when appropriate.
Administer medications via non-intravenous routes and monitor patient responses.
Educate patients and families about orders in the EMR and document effectiveness.

The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse that will work within Extended Care Service in the Community Living Center.

Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse is a direct caregiver who has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex nursing care assignments and who completes duties and responsibilities which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities requiring demonstrated skill sufficient to resolve a range of nursing problems.

Work is reviewed daily by the RN; however, the LPN works independently at this level and requires little supervision by the RN. Duties include but are not limited to; Demonstrates independent technical judgment, without the need for readily available supervision of their work. Possesses a detailed working knowledge of complex practical nursing skills and procedures Functions as a leader or co-leader for a specifically identified group of patients.

Functions as Charge Nurse, where appropriate.

Serves as a member of the healthcare team by participating in planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using a focused assessment Functions as preceptor when appropriate Administers medications via all routes, excluding intravenous Educates patients and/or family for understanding of orders as documented in electronic medical record and carries out complex treatments as ordered, monitors patients' response to medication and treatments Reports changes to providers and RN's and documents effectiveness Work Schedule: Sunday through Saturday, 7:00PM to 7:30AM.
