Job summary

Pineview Special Medical in Centreville, AL is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our part-time clinical team, 20 hours per week.

The LPN will perform medication monitoring, assist with assessments, administer medications, and support crisis intervention under the supervision of a psychiatrist and CRNP.

Candidates should have an Alabama LPN license, familiarity with mental health care, and the ability to document accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current LPN license to practice in Alabama.
  • Mental health setting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with psycho-pharmacy and use of psychotropic medications with the adult population preferred.
  • Valid Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by policy.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of med monitoring process for consumers including documentation of symptoms, behaviors, medication response, side effects, and vital signs.
  • Observes consumers' behavior in clinic and documents for psychiatrist review.
  • Provides direct nursing care as indicated.
  • Coordinates shot clinic and injections and arranges for consumers who miss appointments.
  • Coordinates MD/CRNP schedule to ensure timely clinic visits.
  • Collects and posts medication lists and orders to logs during visits.
  • Administers oral and injectable medications, observing the Seven Rights and checking for allergies.
  • Communicates with physician/CRNP about physical and mental condition and documents accordingly.
  • Provides medication education to consumer and family and monitors side effects.

Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of psychiatric disorders in adult populations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care
  • Effective knowledge of adult consumers as related to all intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of their development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions common to acute psychiatric consumers as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practice.
  • Knowledge of instruction and teaching tools appropriate to adultpopulations.
  • Effective knowledge of effects and treatment of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect issues.
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Completion of themedication monitoringprocess for consumers including: Documentation of current symptoms, behaviors, medication response, medication side effects, Medication List, vital signs abdominal girth, height/weight, and AIMS
  • Observes consumers' behavior in clinic and documents for psychiatrist review
  • Provides direct nursing care, as indicated.
  • Coordinates "shot clinic", giving injections as prescribed and making arrangements for any consumer who fails to present for their medication
  • Coordinates the MD and/or CRNP schedule to ensure consumers are seen expeditiously in the clinic
  • Collects a list of all medication, psychiatric and over-the-counter, with each visit to the clinic. Posts all medication orders to the medication logs.
  • Administers medications, oral and injectable, observing the Seven Rights of medication administration. Documents appropriately on the consultation form or IM medication flow sheet. Checks record of allergies before administering medications.
  • Communicates effectively with physician and CRNP regarding the consumer's physical and mental condition
  • Provides medication education for consumer and family, including uses and potential side effects. Monitors consumers for potential side effects of medications and reports findings to the physician and CRNP.
  • Contacts laboratory, requests and monitor results, and reports all abnormal findings to the physician
  • Provides emergency care as needed
  • Has ability to recognize elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve situation.
  • Adheres to professional code of ethics
  • Complete QI reports as indicated when errors are identified
  • Respects consumer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Treats consumers with care, dignity, and compassion
  • Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA, and Security Programs.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of all consumer and Organization related activities by not divulging information outside the facility.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy by allowing adequate time to arrive, clock-in, and assume responsibilities at designated time.
  • Comply with all standards related to safety and health.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess a current LPN license to practice in the state of Alabama
  • Experience in mental health setting preferred
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care required
  • Familiarity with psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the adult population preferred
  • ValidAlabama Driver's License and withgood driving record as defined by Indian Rivers policy
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Working Conditions:Works in residential facilities; may require long hours. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, consumers and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine. Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift.Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control consumers.Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
