Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), you play a vital role in the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function following injury, illness, or surgery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans created by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and needs.
  2. Therapeutic Exercises and Activities: Lead patients through prescribed exercises and activities aimed at improving their physical function. Instruct patients on proper techniques, monitor progress, and provide feedback for safe and effective participation.
  3. Modalities and Physical Agents: Apply treatment modalities correctly, monitor patient responses, and adjust parameters to ensure optimal outcomes.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses to treatments, document progress, and communicate updates to the supervising physical therapist. Collaborate on treatment adjustments as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license or certification in the state of practice
