Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an Exterminator to inspect infested areas, apply appropriate pesticides, and manage daily routes. The role requires a valid NYS 7A pesticide applicator certificate, a NY driver’s license, and relevant field experience in pest control.

Qualifications

• A valid certificate as a Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator for Industrial, Institutional, Structural and Rodent Control (7A) issued by NYS DEC; must be maintained for duration.
• A valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York; must be maintained for duration.
• Two years of full-time satisfactory practical experience in preparation and use of insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps, and related chemicals/equipment for extermination (Assignment Level II/III eligibility).

Responsibilities

• Inspect assigned areas of infestation to determine extermination method.
• Properly bait sites using effective insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps; follow label directions and safety data sheets.
• Manage daily route of assignments; customize selection and preparation of chemicals for each location.
• Prepare reports using a mobile device, documenting equipment usage, schedules, and operations.
• Assist other exterminators and supervisors; perform rodent exclusion and related duties as required.
• Inspect demolition sites to confirm pre-demolition rodent control procedures.
• Maintain city-issued equipment, materials and clothing; operate city vehicle safely.
• Maintain pesticide applicator licensure and complete continuing education; submit renewals on time.
