Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field is required.
  • Active California license (LMFT/LCSW/LPCC) or equivalent registration.
  • Minimum 1 year of outpatient mental health experience required; experience with underserved populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based approaches (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care).
  • Maintain timely clinical documentation compliant with regulations and policies.
  • Monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, case managers, and other professionals to ensure continuity of services.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and professional guidelines in all interactions and documents.
  • Participate in consultations, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Adhere to organizational policies on client care, confidentiality, and conduct.
  • Maintain productivity standards as directed by leadership.

Job description

The role of Therapist is to provide quality mental health services to the various communities that NAMHS is serving. The therapist will accomplish this by (but not limited to) observing how people interact within units, diagnose and treat psychological disorders, guide clients through difficult life transitions, assist clients in resolving relational or behavioral problems, and help clients to replace dysfunctional behaviors with healthy alternatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to determine client needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care).
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and insurance requirements.
  • Monitor client progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, case managers, and other behavioral health professionals to ensure continuity of services.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, ethical, and professional guidelines in all client interactions and documentation.
  • Participate in case consultations, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development as required.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to client care, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Maintain organization‑wide productivity standards as directed by the Director of Therapy and/or Psychiatric Services.
Client Assessment And Evaluation
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to understand clients' strengths, needs, and challenges.
  • Administer standardized assessment tools and utilize clinical judgment to evaluate mental health status and risk factors.
  • Collaborate with clients to establish therapeutic goals and objectives based on assessment findings.
Treatment Planning And Implementation
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Implement evidence‑based therapeutic interventions to address clients' mental health concerns and facilitate positive behavioral changes.
  • Provide counseling and psychoeducation to clients and their families to enhance coping skills and resilience.
Case Management And Coordination
  • Coordinate with external agencies, healthcare providers, and community resources to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the healthcare system and social service networks.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of client interactions, progress notes, and treatment outcomes.
Crisis Intervention And Support
  • Respond promptly to crises and emergencies, including suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation, domestic violence, and substance abuse issues.
  • Provide crisis intervention services, including risk assessment, safety planning, and referral to appropriate crisis intervention resources.
  • Collaborate with emergency services and law enforcement agencies as needed to ensure client safety and well‑being.
  • Comply with all legal documentation and agency policies associated with crisis intervention.
Professional Development And Collaboration
  • Participate in ongoing supervision, training, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers, to provide integrated care for clients.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice, including maintaining client confidentiality and upholding professional boundaries.
Qualifications
Education
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
Licensure
  • Active and unrestricted California license as an LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC or active AMFT, ACSW, or APCC registration.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience providing mental health services in an outpatient, community mental health, or similar clinical setting.
  • Experience working with underserved populations, including Medi‑Cal recipients, at‑risk individuals, and those with severe mental illness is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of California mental health laws, Medi‑Cal billing requirements, and the diagnostic and statistical manual criteria.
Soft Skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Commitment to cultural competency, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of psychotherapy and counseling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with diverse populations.
