Job description

CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (COTA)
Full-Time | Premier Senior Living Community | Frederick, Maryland
Prava Therapy
THERAPY THAT HELPS PEOPLE KEEP LIVING LIFE ON THEIR TERMS.

Prava Therapy is seeking a full-time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our team within a premier, luxury resort-style senior living community offering Assisted Living and Memory Care in Frederick, Maryland.

This community emphasizes a holistic wellness philosophy—focusing on an active lifestyle, personalized care, life enrichment, resort-style amenities, and continuous engagement. Residents value independence, connection, health, and maintaining an active, fulfilling life.

You’ll get to know your residents, their routines, and the activities that matter most to them.

YOUR ROLE

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, you’ll deliver skilled clinical treatments under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, bringing OT plans of care to life while embedding yourself as a trusted partner within this vibrant community.

You’ll:

  • Implement individualized, evidence-based OT treatment interventions according to established plans of care across adult/geriatric occupational therapy domains.

  • Carry out treatments addressing ADLs, IADLs, functional mobility, upper extremity motor function, fine motor coordination, energy conservation, and joint protection.

  • Target home and apartment safety, cognitive-functional performance, sensory/perceptual processing, visual-spatial skills, ergonomics, and daily routine organization across both Assisted Living and Memory Care settings.

  • Introduce, adapt, and train residents, caregivers, and staff on adaptive equipment, compensatory daily living techniques, environmental modifications, and physical safety tools.

  • Leverage community features—such as fitness centers, art/creative studios, life enrichment spaces, outdoor pathways, and therapy spaces—to practice real-world functional daily living and engagement.

  • Identify subtle changes in resident function, cognitive-functional status, or safety to support proactive care, communicating regularly with the supervising OT.

  • Educate residents, families, caregivers, and community staff on functional independence, cognitive strategies, energy conservation, and adaptive equipment.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, community leadership, wellness directors, life enrichment teams, and caregivers.

  • Monitor resident progress, document treatment sessions accurately and in a timely manner, and provide feedback to the OT for plan-of-care updates.

  • Participate in care coordination, interdisciplinary team discussions, and community wellness initiatives as appropriate.

  • Contribute to a culture of clinical excellence, compassion, professionalism, and continuous learning.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR A COTA WHO THINKS BEYOND THE TREATMENT SESSION.

You believe great therapy isn’t simply about guiding someone through exercise repetitions or completing a routine checklist. It’s about helping someone participate fully in the lifestyle and community they’ve chosen.

That might mean managing daily routines effortlessly, dressing independently, engaging in favorite hobbies and creative arts, dining comfortably with friends, navigating community amenities, or adapting seamlessly to changes in functional ability.

You believe:

  • Every intervention should have a functional, real-world purpose.

  • Residents should be appropriately challenged—not underestimated.

  • Independence, autonomy, and holistic well-being are clinical priorities.

  • Proactive clinical identification, environmental adaptation, and safety support matter.

  • Adaptive equipment integration, routine structuring, and caregiver education are essential components of skilled care.

  • Functional outcomes matter more than simply completing treatment minutes.

  • Strong clinical relationships lead to better care.

YOU’ALL HAVE A COMMUNITY — NOT JUST A CASELOAD.

Working in a resort-style senior community gives you the opportunity to see residents beyond the treatment session.

You’ll see them participating in life enrichment events, utilizing fitness and wellness areas, enjoying meals in community dining venues, or spending time outdoors. Those real-world interactions provide valuable insight into their functional performance in natural contexts, creating opportunities to support continued independence.

Therapy becomes part of everyday life—not something that exists separately from it.

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF…

You’re a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who:

  • Enjoys building genuine relationships with residents.

  • Possesses strong clinical competence in adult/geriatric occupational therapy treatment delivery, adaptive strategies, cognitive-functional care, and wellness integration.

  • Takes pride in creative, individualized, and functional treatment sessions.

  • Believes therapy should enhance a resident’s lifestyle and daily life.

  • Values independence, autonomy, and resident choice.

  • Enjoys collaborating closely with interdisciplinary team members, wellness teams, and community leaders.

  • Is curious, compassionate, and committed to continued professional growth.

  • Communicates clearly and takes ownership of resident treatment outcomes.

  • Wants to make a meaningful impact in an active, upscale senior community.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Residents know you and trust you.

  • Residents understand what they’re working toward in their sessions.

  • Families feel informed and supported.

  • Community staff and wellness teams see you as an essential clinical resource for functional independence, cognitive strategies, and adaptive tools.

  • Your treatment sessions are purposeful, engaging, and individualized.

  • And your residents are better able to participate in the activities, amenities, relationships, and routines that make their lives meaningful.

That’s success.
