Conejo Valley Unified School District Outdoor School seeks a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) to provide medical care for 6th grade students at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA. The role requires administering medications, first aid, and routine nursing services during the 4-day program held at a nearby camp location.

Training and preparation are included, with room and board provided. Availability for the full January–March 2027 Outdoor School session is required, with weekend housing and meals when camp

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Nursing and one year of professional experience in public or private health setting as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
• California LVN or RN license required (LVN preferred).
• CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required.
• Driver's license and DOJ fingerprint clearance required.
• Must be available for entire Outdoor School program duration (Jan 18–Mar 26, 2027).

Responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications per physician and parent instructions; maintain records.
• Assess students' medical conditions and provide first aid and CPR as needed.
• Maintain and order first aid supplies and equipment.
• Respond to inquiries by explaining laws, codes, rules and program regulations.
• Assist with care of special needs students as directed.

SEASONAL POSITION ONLY. MUST BE AVAILABLE FROM January 19 to March 27, 2026.
Work Hours: 8 hours/day, 3.5 days a week. 3 shifts available.

Program Description

The Conejo Valley Unified School District Outdoor School is a 4-day, 3-night program for 6th grade students. The program is held at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA, a 400-acre camp located a few minutes from downtown Ojai, California. The Outdoor School program runs from January 18 to March 26, 2027, which includes a paid training and preparation week and the day after program conclusion. Room and board are included for Outdoor School staff. Weekend housing is available. Meals are available when camp is in operation.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES

A Licensed Vocational Nurse possesses a California Vocational Nurse License and performs specialized physical health care procedures requiring technical manual skills under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), with a major differences between LVN and RN being in the areas of teaching, supervision, independent function, and the authority to assess and plan a course of action.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer prescribed medications according to physician's and parent's instructions; dispense medications based on established District procedures and/or as directed; maintain related records and documents.
• Assess students' medical conditions; administer minor first aid to ill and injured children; distribute adhesive bandages, ice and compresses as necessary; evaluate emergency situations; perform routine first aid and CPR/AED as needed.
• Maintain inventory and order first aid supplies; distribute first aid kits to appropriate site or office location; requisition health office supplies as necessary.
• Respond to parent and staff inquiries by interpreting and explaining applicable laws, codes, rules, programs and regulations.
• Assist with the care of special needs students as directed.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED: Associate's Degree* in Nursing and one (1) year of professional experience in public or private health setting as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

*Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list. When appropriate additional work experience beyond the minimum requirement may be supplemented for required minimum education requirements.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• California Board of Vocational Nursing Vocational Nurse License (LVN) - or -
• California Board of Nursing - Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifi cation issued by a recognized fi rst-aid training program
• Automated External Defi brillator (AED) Certifi cation issued by a recognized fi rst-aid training program
• First Aid Certifi cation issued by a recognized fi rst-aid training program
• Valid California Class C Driver's License
• Ability to obtain California Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• TB clearance.
• Must be available for the entire Conejo Valley USD Outdoor School Program duration, January 18 to March 26, 2027.
