Our client, a reputable healthcare organization known for delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining rigorous safety standards, is hiring a Licensed Medical Physicist. This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced physics principles within a clinical environment, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of radiological procedures. The Medical Physicist will work autonomously, reporting directly to the Director of Radiation Safety, and will play a critical role in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and optimizing radiation safety protocols across multiple clinical sites.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret performance measurements of nuclear medicine imaging equipment, including SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET, and PET/CT units.
- Oversight of radionuclide calibration equipment and calculations related to patient organ doses, adhering to radiation safety standards.
- Conduct Radiation Safety and Quality Assurance testing on various imaging and radiation devices such as uptake probes, dose calibrators, well counters, and survey meters.
- Perform radiation protection surveys, occupational exposure monitoring, and sealed source leak tests.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including NRC, NYC Department of Health, NYS Department of Health, and other federal and state agencies.
- Participate in accreditation processes such as ACR and evaluate research studies involving ionizing radiation.
- Maintain and develop measurement techniques and data management systems, keeping the Director informed of all activities.
- Complete reports and documentation within established timeframes, and attend departmental meetings regularly.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree from an acceptable program recognized by the NYS Office of Professions.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in medical physics or a related field.
- Possession of a NYS License in Nuclear Medical Physics.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles, regulatory standards, and quality assurance procedures.
- Proficiency in radiation measurement instruments, calibration, and dosimetry calculations.
- Excellent documentation and interpersonal skills.
- Additional beneficial qualifications include experience with automated data systems, accreditation processes, and familiarity with pertinent regulatory updates.
- Travel to various clinical locations is expected.
