The State of Connecticut's Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) seeks a Licensed Master Social Worker to provide psychosocial treatment, discharge planning, case management, assessments, crisis intervention and individual/group counseling at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown.

Join a multidisciplinary team to help patients achieve successful discharge and community-based care, with a full-time second shift (12:00pm–8:30pm) and potential shift differentials.

Qualifications

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is now hiring for a Licensed Master Social Worker to join their team! The LMSW will provide psychosocial treatment, discharge planning, case management, assessments, crisis intervention, and individual and group counseling while helping patients achieve greater social and emotional stability. ABOUT US

DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. CVH opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Today, CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services. The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling.

Merritt 3AB is a 30-bed rehabilitation unit providing American Society of Addiction Medicine (A.S.A.M.) level 3.7 intensive rehabilitation treatment. This unit specializes in trauma informed care, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and a variety of other clinical approaches to provide holistic care to the individuals we serve. A full range of medication-assisted treatment is also offered.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency facility or hospital this class is accountable for providing clinical social work services to a limited number of agency clients under the guidance of a licensed clinical social worker or other licensed clinical professional.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Provides clinical social work services to agency clients initially under close supervision
  • Works more independently with acquired experience
  • Participates as a member of a treatment team
  • Participates in or develops psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families
  • Develops treatment plans, prepares discharge summaries and provides individual, group and family therapy, under supervision
  • Advocates for clients and develops resources to assist clients in meeting identified needs
  • Completes all required documentation including progress notes and makes clinical observations of behavior of patients and/or clients
  • Provides case management services as needed
  • Prepares assigned client research and reading activities
  • Performs a greater number of specific and complex clinical social work duties and maintains a larger caseload as skills are acquired
  • May diagnose behavioral health conditions in consultation with licensed behavioral health care professionals
  • Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possess the credentials of a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Connecticut.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience delivering evidence-based treatment to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience working in an inpatient behavioral health setting
  • Experience collaborating with licensed clinical staff to support client treatment goals in an inpatient setting
  • Experience applying trauma-informed and recovery-oriented principles
  • Experience conducting psychosocial assessments, safety screenings, or care coordination tasks
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
