Job summary

A.N. Deringer, Inc. is seeking a licensed Customs Broker to support our Buffalo team.

The role oversees import/export processes, ensuring compliance with U.S. and foreign laws, and may work remotely with occasional visits to the Alexandria Bay office. You will prepare documents, guide customers through customs requirements, coordinate with sales and operations, resolve issues, and stay current on customs procedures.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • 3+ years of Customs Brokerage Industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Guides customers through customs requirements and processes by preparing and submitting documents, determining tariff and duty payments, tracking shipments and using the tariff coding system to classify shipments.
  • Recommends routing and handling for exports/imports for customers and for customer prospects.
  • Prepares all documents including: bills of lading, dock receipts, licenses, and consulate documents. Ensures all government (U.S. and other) required forms and information is compliant and appropriately provided to relative parties.
  • Resolves customer problems accurately and professionally.
  • Helps importers and exporters understand and meet the rules and regulations put in place by the federal government with regard to the trade industry.
  • Works with Customs to resolves problems.
  • Responsible for the operation of the office when the manager is absent, unless the district manager is standing in for the manager.
  • Provides written and oral instructions to direct reports; assigns duties and reviews work for accuracy and conformance to the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists subordinates as needed to complete the work of the department. Stays up-to-date on all customs and Deringer procedure changes.

Job description

This position, which supports our Buffalo team, will follow a Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM Eastern Standard Time schedule.

This role oversees the import and export process, either directly or indirectly through direct reports, and ensures compliance with U.S. and foreign government laws and regulations.

This position is remote but may require occasional visits to the Alexandria Bay office. We would prefer the selected candidate to be within a reasonable travel distance, if possible.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Guides customers through customs requirements and processes by preparing and submitting documents, determining tariff and duty payments, tracking shipments and using the tariff coding system to classify shipments.
  • Recommends routing and handling for exports/imports for customers and for customer prospects.
  • Prepares all documents including: bills of lading, dock receipts, licenses, and consulate documents. Ensures all government (U.S. and other) required forms and information is compliant and appropriately provided to relative parties.
  • Resolves customer problems accurately and professionally.
  • Helps importers and exporters understand and meet the rules and regulations put in place by the federal government with regard to the trade industry.
  • Works closely with other departments including sales to pursue new sales leads, and discusses and sell sour various services with current clients and Operations to resolve issues as it pertains to Customs.
  • Works with Customs to resolves problems.
  • Responsible for the operation of the office when the manager is absent, unless the district manager is standing in for the manager.
  • Provides written and oral instructions to direct reports; assigns duties and reviews work for accuracy and conformance to the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists subordinates as needed to complete the work of the department. Stays up-to-date on all customs and Deringer procedure changes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications:
  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • 3+ years of Customs Brokerage Industry experience
The salary range of compensation for this position is $55,000-$75,000 based on experience and education.
