Job summary

San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health seeks a Licensed Clinical Therapist II for Juvenile Justice Programs, assigned to a juvenile detention facility to deliver trauma-informed behavioral health services to justice-involved youth in a secure, multidisciplinary setting. Clinicians assess, treat, and support youth through crisis and stabilization efforts.

Must be licensed in California (LMFT/LCSW/LPCC) with at least one year post-license experience.

The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health invites qualified behavioral health professionals to apply for the position of Licensed Clinical Therapist II - Juvenile Justice Programs. Licensed Clinical Therapists II (CTII) assigned to Juvenile Justice Programs (JJP) are assigned to a juvenile detention facility to provide behavioral health services to justice-involved youth in a structured, secure, and multidisciplinary treatment environment. Clinical Therapist II staff conduct clinical assessments, provide individual and group therapy, develop and monitor treatment plans, respond to behavioral health crises, and support suicide prevention and stabilization efforts. Clinical Therapist II staff must be comfortable working within a secure facility, following established safety and security procedures, and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries while providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate services. Services are provided in collaboration with San Bernardino County Probation Department personnel, medical staff, psychiatrists, psychologists, substance use disorder counselors, educators, community providers, and other members of the youth’s multidisciplinary treatment team.

Licensed Clinical Therapists II within JJP play an important role in helping youth identify their behavioral health needs, develop coping and emotional regulation skills, strengthen family and community connections, and prepare for successful transition and reintegration back into the community.

This Clinical Therapist II position may also provide clinical guidance and support to pre-licensed staff, assist with reviewing clinical documentation and treatment planning, and provide administrative support to the Clinic Supervisor.

The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues. DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.

Correction Facilities Requirements:

Due to the secure nature of the juvenile detention environment, employees are subject to restrictions on the personal belongings that may be brought into the facility. Personal cellular-enabled/electronic devices are generally prohibited, and other personal items must be limited to those permitted by facility policy and may be subject to search upon entry.

Shifts:

Juvenile detention facilities operate continuously, assigned staff may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays based on program coverage needs.

Clinical Supervision Differential:

Clinical therapists currently providing clinical supervision to Pre-Licensed Clinical Therapists or Pre-Licensed Psychologists are eligible for additional compensation.

Detention Facilities Differential:

Clinical therapists regularly assigned to work in detention facilities receive additional compensation. Indicate your interest and availability for positions assigned to detention facilities on the supplemental questionnaire.

License:

Must be licensed in the State of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). A copy of license is required upon appointment. Licensure must be active, unrestricted, and in good standing.

Experience:

One (1) year, within the last five (5) years, of direct service post-license experience as a licensed therapist in a behavioral health or social service setting.

Note:

Application must clearly distinguish between pre-licensed and post-licensed experience.

Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills is required to receive additional compensation.

The following experience is highly desirable:

• Possesses knowledge of clinical supervisor requirements
• Has completed a minimum of fifteen (15) contact hours in supervision training
• Two (2) or more years of experience providing clinical supervision to Registered Associate MFTs, Registered Associate PCCs, or Registered Associate CSWs or pre-degree clinical interns within the last five (5) years
• One (1) or more years of experience providing clinical or administrative supervision over clinical interns and/or trainees
• Experience in a behavioral health or social service setting in a leadership role either managing a special assignment or providing occasional supervisory coverage
• Interagency collaboration experience
• Education and/or training experience
