Job Summary

The Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) works in close collaboration with the licensed Advanced Practice Clinician to evaluate the patient's reason for visit. All patient care activities are undertaken with the delegation/supervision of a licensed professional. In accordance with VIP standards and licensure regulations, under adequate supervision of a licensed professional, the LPN uses and documents the nursing process to plan, deliver and evaluate goal-focused, individualized, safe, age-specific care for patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Uses current technology to pull patients expeditiously from waiting rooms to exam areas; proactively communicates delays to patients; demonstrates professional behavior in all settings visible to patients and visitors; proactively identifies patient/visitor needs and takes steps to assist; applies age-specific/cultural considerations to patients.
  • Planning and Managing Care: Gathers screening and other data for the health care team; demonstrates accountability by meeting basic patient/family needs (accompanies patients/families to exam rooms; prepares patient for examination; performs diagnostic testing such as spirometry); works with MD/provider to maintain efficient clinic flow; assists with routine procedures and collects lab specimens; maintains patient charts and documents within the electronic health record; prepares diagnostic testing requisitions; communicates patient needs via the electronic health record task system; ensures cleanliness and stocking of exam rooms; notifies staff when supplies are low; supports in maintaining clinic operations.
  • Patient/Family Education: Distributes patient/family education materials as directed by providers; incorporates resources to teach and support patient and family learning (e.g., nebulizer training).
  • Continuous Learning: Participates in staff meetings; develops and achieves personal and professional goals; contributes to VIP goals; participates in quality improvement through data collection and documentation.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team; coordinates clinic flow to optimize efficiencies; uses EHR effectively; maintains positive personal behavior; receives feedback respectfully.
  • Lab Duties: Analyzes specimens, identifies and processes patient samples per laboratory protocol and safety standards; performs analysis with proper QC; operates instruments with established protocol and QC checks; completes analysis within established time deadlines; evaluates results for validity; maintains laboratory files; performs maintenance and records checks; documents instrument issues and takes corrective action; restocks and tracks supplies and expirations.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • All other duties as assigned.
