Job summary

Providence Public Schools is seeking an exceptional Elementary Library Teacher to join our community of educators and students. This one-year position requires candidates to demonstrate Structured Literacy Awareness within one year of hire and RI PK-12 Library Media certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited college or university.
• RIDE certification for All Grades Library Media Teacher PK-12 (ESL certification preferred).
• Structured Literacy Awareness within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials for active learning.
• Instruct and monitor students using learning materials and technology to differentiate instruction.
• Establish clear objectives for activities and provide timely feedback on assignments.
• Manage student behavior with a warm, welcoming, culturally responsive environment.
• Monitor student progress using data and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate with families about needs and progress.
• Actively participate in department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development.
• Assign and grade classwork, homework and tests according to state standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional ELEMENTARY LIBRARY TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience.

Please note: that this position is available for one year only. Hired candidates will be displaced or non-renewed from the position for the following school year, however, displaced teachers remain district employees and will be guaranteed a position in SY27-28.

The Rhode Island Right to Read Act was passed in July of 2019 and requires educators to exhibit either proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Please be advised that this position requires Structured Literacy Awareness Level within one year of hire.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

RIDE Certification Requirements:

• All Grades Library Media Teacher, Grades PK-12.
• ESL Certification Preferred.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active and engaging learning.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and provide appropriate feedback on assignments.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment.
• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and regularly use data to observe and evaluate student performance and development to adjust teaching strategies.
• Maintain and update accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
• Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and families regarding student progress and student needs.
• Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities to support all students.
• Actively participate in and contribute to department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development.
• Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments according to state standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
