Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a Library Media Specialist (LMS) to lead a comprehensive library program aligned with the curriculum. You will collaborate with administration to set goals, coach staff, and advocate for library services across the school.

You will model information literacy, develop diverse resources, and ensure equitable access while guiding students in inquiry, reading, and digital learning.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of teaching and learning concepts and practices in library media.
• Ability to develop instructional goals, manage print/non-print/electronic collections, and monitor budgets.
• Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning.

Responsibilities

• Establish evidence-based, measurable goals aligned with the school improvement plan.
• Integrate AASL standards and VB Schools information literacy skills through coaching and collaboration.
• Advocate for library programs using diverse communication tools.
• Participate in professional growth to enhance library practices.
• Collaborate with departments to apply information literacy across content areas.
• Model and teach resource access, evaluation, and responsible use.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop sound instructional assignments.
• Attend leadership and curriculum meetings to contribute to school initiatives.
• Provide active learning experiences and meet diverse student needs.
• Assess student learning and adapt instruction for groups and individuals.
• Promote reading via social media, digital media, and print.
• Develop initiatives to engage reading, writing, and listening for understanding.
• Collect and analyze data to connect library programs to student achievement.
• Create a safe, inclusive learning environment and ensure equitable access to resources.
• Manage library staff and volunteers to support operations.
• Lead in selecting and organizing information resources across formats.
• Teach inquiry processes to construct understanding and encourage ethical information use.
• Provide 24/7 access to digital resources for the learning community.
