Norwalk Public Schools seeks a Library Media Specialist for Kendall Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The librarian will plan and develop a comprehensive library media program aligned to curriculum, collaborate with teachers and parents, and manage the collection.

Responsibilities include instruction in information literacy, supervision of staff and volunteers, budget management, and promoting literacy through programs and interlibrary cooperation.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with adolescents and effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers and parents to support curriculum goals.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and develops a total library media program to support school objectives.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators and parents to facilitate a learning program supportive of curriculum goals.
  • Organizes, maintains and provides access to a collection of materials tailored to curriculum requirements.
  • Creates an atmosphere conducive to learning and maintains the library and its materials.
  • Classifies, catalogs, circulates and retrieves library media materials.
  • Keeps accurate records and maintains inventory.
  • Solicits recommendations for purchases of print materials and education software.
  • Directs budget allocations reflect curriculum requirements.
  • Reviews and acquires resources and technology to accommodate learning styles.
  • Gives instruction in library skills, information retrieval, and online resources.
  • Provides reading guidance to patrons and publicizes the library.
  • Provides orientations for new teachers and students.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises clerical help and volunteers.
  • Promotes interlibrary cooperation with district, public and academic libraries.
  • Makes periodic reports as required by authorities.
  • Determines learning outcomes and information literacy integration.
  • Participates in committees and meetings.
  • Continues professional development.
