Job summary

The Maine State Library seeks a professional to provide statewide reference and consultative services to libraries, staff, and trustees. The role focuses on governance structures, policy, and program development across Maine’s library community.

Leadership in library development, collaboration with regional teams, and the creation of training materials are key components. Occasional travel is required, and telework is available with in‑office time.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent.
• Two years of professional library work in a relevant field.
• Ability to research complex library governance topics and statutes.

Responsibilities

• Provide statewide, regional, and individual reference and consultative services to library staff and trustees.
• Lead governance and management consulting for nonprofit and municipal public libraries.
• Support Maine Regional Library System and provide regional learning opportunities.
• Develop materials and workshops based on research findings for staff and trustees.
