Job summary

Library Systems & Services, LLC. is seeking a Library Associate 3 in California. The senior library associate role focuses on programming and customer service at the circulation desk, with supervision of junior associates as needed.

You will plan and facilitate library programs, coordinate volunteers, and support librarians in operations, opening/closing, and ensuring access to materials while upholding library policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's preferred.
  • Three years library experience preferred.
  • One-year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus.
  • MS Office proficiency including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule including days/evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service to patrons by greeting, providing tours and assisting patrons in all areas of the library
  • Supervise junior Library Associates including managing performance, evaluation, interviewing/hiring, training and approving timesheets
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement and promote programming activities
  • Processes newly acquired library materials, including all identifying stamps, labels, RIDF and covers
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate
  • Maintain circulation records and oversee the mailing of library materials to patrons in homebound or other programs
  • Process damaged materials to ensure collections are maintained in a good condition
  • Assist with library opening and closing procedures
  • Support reference desk in assisting patrons with questions
  • Coordinate volunteers and assign duties, providing necessary training

JOB SUMMARY

The Library Associate 3 role is the senior role in the Library Associate job family and may supervise Junior Library Associates. The primary responsibility is programming and at the circulation desk, providing excellent customer service. A portion of the Library Associate 3 job may also be to plan and facilitate library programs and/or volunteer coordination.

Hours worked per week: 40
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Provides customer service to patrons by greeting, providing tours and assisting patrons in all areas of the library
  • Supervise junior Library Associates which includes managing performance, evaluation, interviewing/hiring, training and approving timesheets
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement and promote

  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three years library experience preferred
  • One-year supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus
  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is desired
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
