Job summary

The Camden County Library is seeking an enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian to develop and present early literacy programs for birth to Grade 2. The role includes reference and readers advisory services, public computer assistance, and collection development.

The position may involve outreach to schools and community groups and may require work at other branches. Qualified candidates will have a MLS in Library Science, a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate, and may have one year of

• Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences from ALA-accredited program or NJ equivalent.
• NJ Professional Librarian Certificate required or obtained on hire.
• Librarian 2 requires one year of professional librarian experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and present youth services programming, including story time and early literacy activities.
• Provide reference and reader’s advisory services to all ages.
• Answer questions in person, by phone and email.
• Assist customers using public computers and library resources.
• Manage collection development: purchasing, weeding and upkeep.
• Proactively conduct community outreach to schools and organizations.
• Assist at circulation desk as needed; may work at other facilities.
• Act as Person-in-Charge of the branch as needed.

Schedule: 3 5 hr/wk – Schedule is based on library needs and will include days, generally 1-2 nights/wk & rotating Saturdays

The Camden County Library is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and creative professional who loves to work with the public both in person and virtually. Duties include:

• develop and present youth services programming; including story time and other early literacy programs
• provide reference and reader’s advisory services to all ages;
• answer questions in-person, over the phone and by email;
• assist customers on the public computers and using other technology and resources;
• collection development duties including purchasing, weeding, and upkeep of the assigned collection area;
• proactively conduct community outreach to schools and local organizations;
• assist at the circulation desk as needed;
• perform other related duties as required.

Education and Experience:

Librarian 1 requires: A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.

Must possess a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate or obtain the certificate upon hiring. Librarian 2 requires: One year of full time equivalent professional librarian experience as well as the requirements listed above.
