Job description

Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following:coordination of library services and/or teaching assigned classes,if assigned, under the supervision of the area dean; helpingstudents fulfill their maximum potential in mastering coursecontent; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining athorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field;continuing professional development; utilizing current technologyin the performance of job duties; maintaining standards ofprofessional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professionalposition; assisting with articulation and curriculum developmentand review; serving on college committees and participating infaculty governance including accreditation and studentco-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities asassigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties andresponsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The library faculty member shall also demonstrate a strongcommitment to equity-minded practices. This includes acknowledgingthat students enter the college with diverse backgrounds,experiences, and levels of preparation; providing inclusive andculturally responsive instruction and services; and supportingstudents in developing the skills necessary to thrive bothacademically and personally. The successful candidate willcontribute to creating an environment in which all students feelwelcomed, supported, and empowered to achieve their educationalgoals.

The department maintains a focus on:
  • Information literacy instruction in a variety of modalities andformats that is accessible, inclusive, and responsive to studentneeds.
  • Providing research help to support student’s varying levels ofresearch experience.
  • Providing access to materials and content that reflect diverseperspectives and support student success and equity.
  • Outreach and marketing of library services and collections toincrease student engagement and reduce barriers to access.
  • Assessing library programs and services to ensure theyeffectively support students and contribute to equitable studentoutcomes.
Position Salary Information:

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree,upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professionaloccupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of TeachersContract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step8). Typical Duties

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to,teaching the following courses:

  • LIBR 318 Library Research and Information Literacy
  • LIBR 324 Critical Thinking and Information Literacy
  • LIBR 494 Topics in Library Science

In collaboration with the other librarians, the Librarian may be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Providing reference and information services to students andstaff in a variety of modalities (in-person, chat, Zoom).
  • Providing library instruction in a variety of settings andformats.
  • Maintaining up-to-date instructional materials for print andonline library resources.
  • Selecting materials in subject areas for print, media, anddigital collections.

The Librarian may also be involved or take the lead in coordinatingone or more of the following:

  • Instructional programs and services
  • Circulation policy and procedures
  • Collection management including acquisitions, maintenance, andweeding
  • Management of the physical library space
  • Marketing and outreach of library services.
  • Supporting textbook access through course reserves and openeducational resources
  • User experience of library resources including maintainingwebsite, discovery interface, and other library tools
  • Research help coordination and scheduling
  • Assessment of library programs and services
  • Supporting special programs, outreach centers and distanceeducation students
  • Representing the library in districtwide committees andworkgroups

Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in library science, library and information science;OR the equivalent. All degrees must be from an accreditedinstitution completed by time of hire.
  • Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity toand understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnicbackgrounds of community college students, including those withphysical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences inlearning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusiveeducational and employment environment.
